Abstract
|
|
|
Stenosis of proximal airway due to tuberculosis is one of the most troublesome
clinical condition not only because it can lead to respiratory failure but also because of
technical difficulty in surgical treatment.
We tried dilatation of main bronchus for 8 cases of stenotic tuberculous bronchitis by
using a balloon dilatation catheter in adults.
Based on our experiences, balloon dilatation is a relatively noninvasive alternative to
surgical dilatation or resection in tracheobronchial stenosis.
The authors belive that balloon dilatation therapy should be considered as the initial
form of therapy for tracheobronchial stenosis, especially in the cases of non-neoplastic
origin.
